Sixth House to begin in Delphos

Once again the 700 block of W. Wayne St. in Delphos will see house construction activity.  Habitat for Humanity-Lima Area, Inc. will formally begin construction a house—the sixth built by the affiliate in Delphos on Saturday, August 13.

A week ago Beining Contractors moved on to the lot at 715 W. Wayne St. in Delphos to begin the three month process of building the sixth house built by Habitat For Humanity Lima Area, Inc. in Delphos.  By Saturday, August 13 the slab with rough-in plumbing will be in place allowing for the first major on-site workday on the project.

Susan Bonifas and her 12 year old son of Ottoville have been chosen to be the partner family for this house.  They are looking forward to moving into a house that will afford them more space than the small apartment they presently occupy.

The work day on Saturday will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a “Blessing the Build” project that will invoke God’s blessing on the project.  A special part of such a service always is the “first nail” when the partner family is invited to drive the first nail for the framing.  By the end of the day the exterior walls will be erected and sheathed and trusses set.

As always, volunteers will be key to the building of this house.  Susan a partner famiy will be investing personally doing her 150 hours of “sweat equity.”  She will be recruiting friends to do their part.  Many others will also be needed.  Dave Stemen will be coordinating the recruitment of local volunteers.  Interested persons can call Dave at (419) 692-6436. Habitat construction managers, Andy Chappell-Dick and Roger Calvert, will be on hand to supervise the work.

The house is being funded by a grant from the Deinstberger Foundation, a CHIP Grant through Allen County Department of Community Development, and donations from Delphos individuals and churches.  Supplementing these will be homeowner payments from to 37 other partner families now repaying mortgages and proceeds from the affiliate sponsored ReStore in Lima.

This build will move along quickly with the house projected for completion by October 31 of this year.

Two New Partner Families Anticipate Homes

Two families were recently approved to be "Partner Families" in our Habitat program.  Susan Bonifas of Ottoville with her son has been selected for the next house to be built in Delphos.  The date for construction to begin is still uncertain for the house that will be located at 715 W. Wayne St.

Eddis "Mae Mae" Jackson and her son have been selected to move into the house at 1145 Reese Ave. in Lima when renovation is completed.  Mae Mae hopes to be in her house by mid-July.

Congrtulations to both!
