Habitat for Humanity-Lima Area, Inc. Will Build An 'Oprah House'
Lima Area Habitat for Humanity has been selected to build an Oprah House, one of the 205 homes Oprah challenged her viewers to build with Habitat for Humanity when she launched Oprah's Angel Network on September 18,1997.
A Habitat for Humanity affiliate in each of the 205 cities where a television station affiliate broadcasts The Oprah Winfrey Show will build an Oprah House.
“This is something we can do,” Oprah said as she explained The Oprah's Angel Network intent to inspire everyday citizens to make a meaningful, hands-on effort to improve their communities and the lives of others. She suggested several projects and ideas for doing so, including working with Habitat for Humanity.
During the show she also challenged viewers to write in to her show, encouraging them to become volunteers with their local affiliate. So far, more than 15,000 names have been received by Habitat for Humanity International.
Ken Pulley, Executive Director, of the Local Habitat Affiliate, was pleased to be notified of the honor of being designated to build the Oprah House and looks forward to this opportunity to serve the community and its people in need of decent, affordable housing.
The Oprah House will be the next house built by the Lima Area Habitat; and the organization is currently preparing for the process of Family Selection. Meetings to take applications from families interested in being considered for a Habitat Home are being held this month: Tuesday, March 24 at 7pm at the Red Cross Chapter House; and Saturday, March 28 at 1pm at the former Nurses' Residence at Lima Memorial Hospital. Call (419)2224937 for information.
Anticipated date for starting the Oprah House is mid-June.
